In an era when bodily mechanization is directly tied to social status, most people have embraced mechanical augmentation, while some “body purists” reject it and live in hiding. Kurogane, who works at a brothel in the lower levels of the city, encounters a mechanical doll girl named Apfel due to a minor mishap. Thus begins a fierce story between a human who tried to live like a machine and a mechanical girl who tries to live like a human.
